FOR COMMUNITY

LIFE GROUPS

God has hard-wired each of us for companionship and community (fellowship). This is shown throughout scripture. In the very beginning, God said “it is not good for man to be alone.” Whether or not we ever marry, we’re better together. We need each other. In Acts where the birth of the church is being described, God gives us the vital elements of growth individually and as the church.  The early church was devoted to the teachings of the apostles (Bible study), to fellowship, to the breaking of bread (meals & communion), and to prayer. There is a dynamic of growing in Christ that happens in a smaller context of believers, that really cannot happen anywhere else. A great model is Jesus choosing twelve disciples to pour into for the short time He had here with them. Then they were called to spread the gospel to the known world. In 1 Corinthians 12 we are told to have the “same care for one another” and that everyone’s gifting is needed to keep the body of Christ healthy and functioning.

We believe that our small groups are the foundation of the “body life” that we enjoy here at Calvary Chapel Greenwood. Deep, supporting, life changing community does not happen on its own, you have to be intentional and committed to it. That is why on various nights we break up into smaller groups that meet in homes around the Greenwood area. Each group chooses its own format, but each provides an opportunity for us to dive below the surface in our relationships with one another. Come join us in this wonderful walk of faith, fellowship of the Spirit, that produces the likeness of Christ in each of us!
